This virtual event will feature expert insight from the bench and the courtroom, examining how unconscious assumptions influence professional behavior, decision-making, and equity in risk management.

Hon. Karine Mkrtchyan, Judge, Los Angeles Superior Court

Appointed by Governor Gavin Newsom in 2025, Judge Mkrtchyan presides in Department 25 at the Spring Street Courthouse. A former commissioner and healthcare litigation attorney, she actively serves on the court’s Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Committee and teaches civil pretrial practice at Southwestern Law School. She is also a past president of SCAHRM.

Mercedes Rezai, Esq., Partner, Kelly Trotter & Franzen

A leader in healthcare litigation and the nonprofit legal community, Ms. Rezai has represented hospitals and healthcare providers throughout California. She has served on numerous leadership boards, including the Long Beach Bar Association and Women Lawyers of Long Beach, and is a longtime SCAHRM member.
