“Too Busy to Be Burned Out!” – The Risk Professional’s Journey to Balance and Well-Being

August 27 at 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Risk professionals face relentless professional and personal demands, and balance often feels out of reach. Burnout has become a frequent topic in risk management circles, but often goes unaddressed personally until it becomes critical. This creates a paradox: many are “too busy to be burned out,” yet too burned out to sustain their work. This session tackles that reality with a blend of acknowledged best practices and candid personal insight. Gregg Timmons shares his own journey through imposter syndrome, emotional exhaustion, and severe burnout during and after the pandemic—driven in part by his own self-imposed rules. His story of recovery highlights what it takes to confront burnout with honesty and fortitude. Participants will explore practical strategies for managing their own “personal and professional risks” through balancing professional demands, preventing exhaustion, and building resilience. The session ultimately invites attendees to re-evaluate their professional well-being and uncover the drivers that matter most for a more balanced, fulfilling career – and life.

Learning Objectives:

Upon completion of this session, participants will:

  1. Recognize common professional demands and self-imposed rules that contribute to the paradox of being “too busy to prevent burnout.”
  2. Describe effective strategies for addressing burnout and building resilience, such as coaching, self-care, or mindfulness.
  3. Develop a personal action plan that re-evaluates professional well-being, explores personal and professional motivational drivers, and prioritizes resilience for a sustainable career.
