The Boot Camp series of sessions at our 2021 Annual Educational Conference was designed to provide participants with an overview on how to have a successful career in Healthcare Risk Management. It provided a wealth of information for not only those new to the profession, but also those looking for a refresher on basic risk management focus areas. Now our instructors are back to answer questions and provide a round-up of the best takeaways and highlights from the three sessions.

The cost to do so is $15 for current SCAHRM members and $45 for non-members and you will receive 3.0 hours continuing education credit for BRN and ASHRM/CPHRM for those sessions, and additional credit as listed below for the follow-up session.

Brenda Lillington is the Executive Director for the Professional Medical Hospital Liability (“PMHL”) Program for University of California, Office of the President, Risk Services (“OPRS”). The PMHL Program is part of Risk Services’ Self-Insurance Program for the University of California, which oversees claims, purchase of excess insurance, manages the third party administrator, and assists in risk reduction efforts across the five academic medical centers. Brenda is an attorney who practiced for fourteen years prior to coming to University of California.
Angela Peachy-Larson has over 15 years of experience working in healthcare risk management. Angela is currently employed with Emanate Health serving as Risk Manager. Emanate Health is one of the largest non-profit health care providers consisting of three Hospitals, Hospice & Home Health as well as clinics throughout the region. Before joining Emanate Health in April of 2020, she served as the Director of Risk Management for USC Verdugo Hills Hospital in Glendale, California. In her role as Risk Manager, Angela helps to develop and grow risk programs and policies that promote patient safety. She also assists in managing general liability and risk exposures. Her responsibilities include investigations of incidents, patient grievances, regulatory management and medical malpractice claims. Her committee work includes Safety, Security, Patient Rights, Bioethics, and Reward and Recognition Programs for safety reporting promotion. In addition, Angela provides education to physicians, staff and colleagues regarding enterprise risk management, leadership training, customer service excellence, culture sensitivity, and safety awareness. Angela currently serves on the Board for the California Association of Patient Relations and is the past president for the organization. For the past four years she has served as a Board of Director for the Southern California Association of Risk Management and is currently the Vice President and Chair of the Education Committee.
Kendra Ramada has a decade of legal experience in both the government and healthcare fields. Currently, she works as a Litigation Manager in the Risk Management Department at UC San Diego Health, a position she has held for three years. Prior to working in Risk Management, she worked in educational compliance and for the State of NJ in the Attorney General’s Office. Kendra obtained her Bachelor of Science from the University of Miami and her Juris Doctorate from Seton Hall University. She passed the bar in 2010 and gained her CPHRM in 2019.
Julie Ann Schneider has over 20 years of Healthcare Risk Management experience in all care settings and has served in both academic and community-based organizations. She has overseen a captive insurance program, and has served in roles at both the clinical organizational level and the corporate level. In addition, she has served as adjunct faculty in the Graduate Health Services Administration program at Cal State University, San Bernardino. She holds a Master’s Degree in Health Services Administration and is a Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management. She is the current President of the Southern California Association for Healthcare Risk Management (SCAHRM) and the Director of Risk Management and Regulatory Affairs for the University of California, Irvine Health System.
