Lt. John Zumwalt, UCI Health Police & Public Safety Division
Bio:
UC Irvine Police Department Lieutenant John Zumwalt leads the UCI Health Public Safety Division, overseeing all security, law-enforcement, and emergency response operations for UCI Health. He manages a comprehensive team of sworn officers, detectives, dispatchers, public safety personnel, and administrative staff. Committed to community-oriented policing, Lt. Zumwalt drives initiatives that promote safety, prevention, education, and collaborative problem-solving across the medical center. He oversees the Security Management Plan, including 24/7 response, access control, visitor management, emergency alert systems, video surveillance, and the medical center’s canine program. He also manages the Division’s budget, hiring, and training programs; serves as liaison to executive leadership; and contributes to the Incident Response and Consultation Teams, addressing cases involving threat assessment, workplace violence, and sensitive criminal matters.

Willie Morataya, Director of Security, Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center
Biography:
Willie has had a diverse life experience, which has enabled him to pursue several successful endeavors. His educational background includes earning his Master’s Degree in Administration of Emergency Services in 2008 from California State University, Long Beach. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Studies from California State University, Long Beach, in 2006. He also has his Associate’s Degree in Social and Behavioral Science from Citrus College in Glendora. His life experience and skills bring a multitude of talents.
Willie was a Police Corporal with fourteen years of experience at the Pomona Police Department, 1996-2010. He was a Patrol Supervisor, a Supervising member of the Hostage Negotiation Team, a Field Training Officer for 8 years, a Special Events Coordinator, the Training Division Corporal, a Police Officer Recruitment/Testing Corporal, and a Background Investigations Supervisor.
