Diagnostic Errors in the ER
Presented by: Marlene Icenhower, Senior Risk Specialist at Coverys
Program: This session will examine the most commons source of claims that arise in the ED setting and will discuss why the ED is particularly vulnerable to claims for medical malpractice. Common risk management issues that contribute to these claims will be explored in the context of the ED. Finally, we will discuss risk management strategies that can help to reduce the risk of claims in this fast-paced unique environment
Marlene Icenhower JD, BSN, RN, CPHRM, FASHRM has more than 30 years of healthcare and legal experience, focused in the areas of regulatory compliance, quality management, and patient safety. As a registered nurse, Marlene practiced in cardiac care, critical care, and case management. Prior to joining Coverys, she was the director of risk management for a mid-sized hospital system. In this role, Marlene was responsible for the overall risk management and patient safety program, loss control, and risk financing, while also participating in contract reviews, patient relations, and quality and accreditation activities. She also served as a liaison to representatives of insurance companies and regulatory agencies. Marlene received both her Bachelor of Science and Juris Doctor degrees from St. Louis University.
