SUMMARY:Lunch & Learn Webinar: Resiliency is a Symptom of a Broken System. A Framework for Treating the Root Cause of Burnout\, presented by Stanford Healthcare
DESCRIPTION:Description:\nHealthcare’s focus on resiliency has primarily been centered on frontline and clinical staff\, but high levels of burnout among non-clinical staff pose significant risks to the overall system. The VonSull Framework offers a comprehensive\, risk-mitigation strategy that addresses departmental scalability and standardization while focusing on non-clinical staff engagement to prevent burnout and reduce talent loss—key risks to healthcare operations. Healthcare professionals interested in leadership and improvement strategies aimed at optimizing efficiency and reducing operational risks\, while enhancing staff satisfaction and resilience\, will benefit from the Framework. Applied in an academic medical center department facing low staff retention\, engagement\, and satisfaction\, a root cause analysis revealed that job scope confusion\, non-scalable tools\, and inconsistent processes were major contributors to these risks. For non-clinical departments to remain assets to a healthcare system in a constantly evolving environment\, they must identify and deliver value efficiently\, mitigate operational risks\, and enhance employee satisfaction to promote long-term staff retention. \nSpeakers:\n \nMichaela Sullivan\, Executive Director\n\nMichaela Sullivan\, MSN\, RN\, PHN has been a dedicated member of the Stanford community for nearly 15 years\, embodying the institution’s mission of “Healing humanity through science and compassion\, one patient at a time.” Her journey into nursing was driven by her desire to live her core values daily\, using her career as a platform for compassion and leadership.\nMichaela began her nursing career as an RN Case Manager at Stanford Children’s Health\, and she quickly rose to lead Utilization Management within Stanford Health Care’s (SHC) Care Coordination Department. SUMMARY:Lunch & Learn Webinar: Science of Storytelling\, presented by Manson Ho\, Magna
DESCRIPTION:Description:\nIn this program: Manson Ho will outline the key story components and provide an introduction into the neuroscience of storytelling. For an attorney\, better story comprehension means that jurors can utilize more of the information presented to them heading into the deliberation room. Over the last decade\, neuroscience researchers have begun to identify the key brain anatomy associated with storytelling to understand why stories are so impactful and memorable. The main finding from this research has been that our brains actually prefer stories and are shown to be more active when listening to narratives\, compared to simply hearing information in sequential order. Furthermore\, using existing neural networks within these structures allow us to frame our stories in a way jurors can relate to. Trial presenters can target these brain regions and to enhance brain activity\, neurochemical release and overall\, tell a better trial story. \nObjectives:\nAt the conclusion of this event\, attendees will: \n1. Understand the importance of stories and effective storytelling in litigation \n2. Recognize the psychological factors influencing juror biases \n3. Identify strategies for developing effective stories. \nContinuing Education Language:\nSCAHRM is approved by the California State Bar as an MCLE Multiple Activity Provider (MAP #18946) and a Continuing Education Provider by the California Board of Nursing (CEP #10552). \nThis activity will qualify for 1.0 MCLE credit hour and 1.0 BRN continuing education contact hours.  This event is approved for 1.0 ASRHM CE contact hours. \nRegistration is not transferrable; No refunds are given for cancellation or non-attendance.  If you are unable to attend\, you may request a recording of the event for self-study continuing education credit. \n

SUMMARY:APPs: Using Claims Data to Manage Risk
DESCRIPTION:Description:\nThe number of APPs in the workforce has grown considerably over the past decade. This trend is expected to continue over the next decade as the growth in physician population slows. Our claims database reveals that as the population of APPs grows\, the number of claims involving APPs are growing as well. We will explore the claims and indemnity trends associated with APPs based on an analysis of MPL claims data. The primary root causes and risk management issues that contribute to these claims will be examined. The presentation will conclude with a discussion of risk management strategies that can help an organization or practice minimize the risk and liability associated with APP practice. \nSpeaker Bio:\nMarlene has more than 30 years of healthcare and legal experience\, focused in the areas of regulatory compliance\, quality management\, and patient safety. As a registered nurse\, Marlene practiced in cardiac care\, critical care\, and case management. Prior to joining Coverys\, she was the director of risk management for a mid-sized hospital system. In this role\, Marlene was responsible for the overall risk management and patient safety program\, loss control\, and risk financing\, while also participating in contract reviews\, patient relations\, and quality and accreditation activities. She also served as a liaison to representatives of insurance companies and regulatory agencies. Marlene received both her Bachelor of Science and Juris Doctor degrees from St. Louis University. \nLearning Objectives: \n\nIdentify the most common causes of claims involving APPs\nSummarize recommendations for reducing diagnostic error claims\nDiscuss strategies for reducing errors related to miscommunication\n\n \n

SUMMARY:SCAHRM June Webinar: Using Patient Safety as a Roadmap to Combat Sexual Misconduct
DESCRIPTION:  \n\nwith guest speakers\nCandace D. Collins\, JD\nSenior Director of Strategic Alliances \nCandace D. Additionally\, she has ten years of experience working in the insurance coverage and defense field. Candace holds a bachelor’s degree in business management and a Juris Doctorate (JD). \n  \nChristy Schiller\, MA\nVice President of Consulting \n Christy Schiller has over 20 years of industry experience applying social science and public health strategies to prevent abuse and its long-term effects. She is a former complex litigation research analyst with a bachelor’s degree in Anthropology and a master’s degree in Medical Anthropology. \n \nWebinar Summary:\nIncreasing litigation\, legislation\, insurance demands\, and accreditation standards provide ongoing reminders of the frameworks needed to address sexual misconduct. Amid watershed events\, healthcare providers have been refining an ever-growing list of prevention to-dos for some time\, but with mixed success. Armed with a list of prevention goals\, providers often struggle to get any real traction with these efforts. \nBut what if we reflect on the connection between these struggles and the links to patient safety? Join Praesidium for a discussion on how these reflections may create a path forward from system-level liability for disruptive behavior and physician sexual misconduct to navigate sexual misconduct as a system-wide patient safety issue.
